Saturday we went on a canoe trip with Brian Schulmeier and a bunch of his friends from Austin. We do this trip every April and it's a lot of fun. Fun, but not injury free. Every year that Nathan and I go together we get a canoe. When he goes it alone, he gets a kayak. I feel safer when we're in the same boat...even though we ALWAYS flip out. I don't know why or how but we always take a tumble. This year was no different. At least it wasn't too bad. I just scraped my hand. I originally described it as "I banged up my hand" but I've been informed by my friend Brad that when 'girls' say that they 'banged up their hand' guys tend to think its broken, or something but with all his wisdom he knew I probably just scrapped it. He's right but it really did hurt.
Shulmeier also took a good tumble and scraped up his knees but since I knew that I'd be upside down in my boat I didn't take my camera on the water. Good thing. It'd be a hydrated thing of the past.
While floating down the Guadalupe, we saw a dead deer in the water. We're not sure how it died but it was half in/ half out of the water. It was swollen and covered with flies. Right as we passed it someone splashed Brian with an ore and got dirty deer water in his beer. Gross!!
One of my favorite comments from the entire day was from Brian. It's so profound! It's so life changing! Here it is....
"You know, when we first started out today, I felt really wobbly in my kayak but now, I feel at one with it." Thanks, Brian. I'm still getting soooooo much enjoyment out of that comment!

Zen kayaking. I like it.
Wow, he's come a long way from a previous Brian quote I remember, "I JUST DON'T LIKE THE WATER"! Good to see he's now bonding with the idea, eh?
Wow, that hand looks terrible!!! I'd definitely call that banged up! The rest sounds fun though.
