Swaddle

It's a fact. Babies love to be swaddled. Amelia sleeps so well when she'd bundled up like a burrito. She loves being in the swaddle but the act of the swaddle....not so much! Nathan is a master swaddler. He's got skill. She knows it's coming. That baby straight jacket is a sure bet for a good 4-5 hours of night sleep and she fights it! Her little legs are so strong and she tries to hyper extend her legs so that she can bust out of the swaddle after the big struggle. Sometimes we luck out and swaddle her when she's already asleep and when you pick her up her legs are folded tightly underneath her, like she's still in the womb. Here's she is swaddled up on the couch. She looks so little!

1 month old

I can't believe a month has already gone by! We've been busy getting used to middle of the night feedings, excessive diaper changing, eating our food in shifts so that we can cuddle, rock and love on little Amelia. People tell you that your life is changed forever and they are right! It's amazing what you have to do to just get out of the house to run errands or go to church with a newborn. The diaper bag checklist must be complete....
diapers
wipes
diaper cream
change of clothes for wet accidents
change of clothes for poopy accidents
change of clothes for spit up accidents
hooter hider for public feedings
hand sanitizer
wallet
cell phone
burp cloth
I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

Anyway, life is different and sooo worth it. Here's a pic of our little bundle at 1 month.
We love you, sweet girl!

Smile, You're 12 days old

We took Amelia to get her picture taken last Friday, Sept. 4th and she did a great job posing and smiling for the camera. I love this little girl so much! She's wearing an outfit from Amy and she looks beautiful in pink ruffles.

Things are going well for us. She's a good eater! She had her 2 week check up on Tuesday and she weighs 8lbs and 6oz. She's nursing beautifully except that she spits up. All the time. I've been wondering how she puts on weight. I'm so thankful that she's healthy and growing. She also had to have her second PKU test...the dreaded heel prick. I held her while they drew blood and poor baby just cried and cried. Only for a minute of two. She's tough. I'm so not looking forward to her 2 month check up and the shots that come with that visit. I hope I don't cry!

She still has her days and night confused. I'm trying really hard to keep up awake after day time feedings but it is challenging. I keep reminding myself that she isn't even 3 weeks old yet. Last night when she woke to eat around 3 she stayed up until 5. Nathan and I are SLEEPY! At least we have something precious to look at while we're up in the wee hours of the morning.

Playtime

Here's a video of Amelia playing for the first time on her play mat I got at the Concordia "Everything For Children's Sale" that our MOPS group hosts. She really enjoys looking at herself in the mirror and reaching up to hit the lion.
